Protecting Wild Nature on Native Lands: Case Studies by Native People from Around the World was published in conjunction with the first Native Lands and Wilderness Council convened during the 8th World Wilderness Congress (Alaska, 2005). This handbook shares some of the conversations and presentations of this first Council. Native peoples control millions of hectares of their own sovereign wildlands around the world. Some of the lands are well managed in a traditional manner, and some are managed with a combination of traditional and contemporary management tools. This book shares the stories and expertise of these native stewards.
